1973年，太平洋沿海フェリーの＜名古屋・仙台・苫小牧＞航路用として建造。「あるかす」とは同型船。順同型船として近海郵船の「まりも」がある。1978年に車両甲板増設工事を実施。1989年にきたかみ就航に伴い引退，Perama shipyardにて改装後，1990年，ギリシャのStrintzis Line社へ売却。＜Ancona - Corfu - Igoumenitsa - Patras＞航路や＜Patras - Igoumenitsa - Korfu - Venedig/ Ancona＞などに就航した。1999年にはSuperfast Ferry社により＜Patras - Igoumenitsa - Bari＞航路に就航，2000年にBlue Ferries社に移籍した後は＜Patras - Igoumenitsa - Corfu - Venice / Ancona＞航路や＜Patras - Brindisi＞航路に就航した。2001年にはTurkish Marmara Lines社へ売却された後，パナマのMarco shipping社に移籍した。2004年係船，2006年廃船。

Built in 1973 by Taiheiyo Enkai Ferry K. K. for Nagoya - Sendai - Tomakomai route. She was identical in design to Arkas (built in 1972) and semi-identical to Marimo (built in 1972). In 1978, an additional car deck was added. In 1989, she retired from this route as Kitakami (built in 1989) was put on the service on this route. She was sold to Strintzis Lines in Greece and put on the route between Ancona - Corfu - Igoumenitsa - Patras route and the Patras - Igoumenitsa - Korfu - Venedig/Ancona route following the renovation at Perama shipyard. In 1999, put on the service between Patras - Igoumenitsa - Bari route by Superfast Ferry. In 2000, she was put on the service between Patras - Igoumenitsa - Corfu - Venice/Ancona route and the Patras - Brindisi route by Blue Ferries. In 2001, she was sold to Turkish Marmara Lines, and then Marco shipping Co. Laid up in 2004, and scrapped in 2006.
